In 1975 with the purchase of the former home of the St. Louis Artist Guild, Dignity House became a Neighborhood Houses' center. With community input, it was decided that this center would have an Arts emphasis. The center has collaborated with numerous artisans such as a local theatre group, musicians, choirs and sculptors.

The Arts theme is woven through Dignity House's after school program. The center operates an afterschool program during the school year and is open full days when schools are closed. During the summer, camps operate from 7-6:30 weekdays. During the afterschool program, children work with mentors and tutors. The academic program is based on a five-point curriculum that focuses on cultural awareness, academic reinforcement and assistance, supervised recreation, social growth & development and fun. Twice a week during Kid's Café, children learn to prepare nutritious meals. Dignity House collaborates with West End Rec. so that our children have recreational and sports activities.
